Let’s Be More Positive in 2014!

Let’s Be More Positive in 2014!

We need to understand that it’s impossible to go an entire year without navigating through some challenges.  That’s just life!

Experts tell us that happiness is a choice that we can make, and that it’s not something that is entirely influenced by external circumstances.  By simply deciding to be happy, we can adopt and live out a more positive life.

Setting a goal to make 2014 a positive year is more attainable than you think.

So, here are eight ways to practice more positivity in 2015.

  • Go outside: research proves that going outside helps reduce stress, increases your level of serotonin and elevates your mood.
  • Spend some time with children – your own, grandchildren, nephews or nieces, your neighbour’s children – because little kids can have the best outlooks on life.
  • Meditate: plenty of research shows that meditation can help promote positivity and happiness and, as an added bonus, it can even lower your blood pressure.
  • Play with your pet, because pet ownership has been proven to boost happiness and banish stress.
  • Unplug every once in a while: Facebook, texting, Twitter… we are bombarded with information every day and not all of it is good. Studies have shown that spending time on social media can actually make us feel lonely and unhappy about ourselves.  So, turn off for a while!
  • Learn to say “thank you” – because gratitude can help you focus on the positive aspects in your life. Send a thank you note to someone you care about, just because you can.  You’ll feel happier for it.
  • Read more books: aside from their unconventional health benefits, good books can put your mind in another place, perhaps even a positive place.
  • Dance, or sing it out: do you ever notice that when you’re grooving to your favourite tune, or screaming lyrics as you drive down the road, your mood elevates? That’s no coincidence! Studies have shown that singing and dancing can be an instant and positive booster.

That’s my eight.  What are yours?

Happy New Year and enjoy a wonderful 2015!!
